Useful Equipment for Home Distilling and Other Tips

Wanting good-quality alcohol means more than just being able to afford the expensive stuff. It is also about being able to make your own booze yourself in a manner that would enable you to get the most out of your drinking experience. The first thing that you are going to have to look into if you want to start distilling your own alcohol at home is the sort of equipment that you are going to need. You are obviously going to need an operating still that would help you take part in the actual distilling process, but there are a number of other tools that you can use as well.

One of the most important tools in your home-distilling arsenal is a fire extinguisher. You are obviously going to take as many safety precautions as you can, but no matter how safe you are, sometimes things just go bad, and you are going to have to be prepared in order to minimize the damage you end up sustaining.

During the distillation process, a lot of alcohol vapor is going to escape the operating still. This vapor is highly flammable, and, since it is an inescapable part of the distillation process, chances are that while you are working a fire is far more possible than it would be at other times. Having a fire extinguisher on hand is the best way to ensure that if a fire breaks out it can be put out in the shortest period of time possible.

Another precaution that you can take in case a fire breaks out is to get some heat protective gear. After all, even if you do use the fire extinguisher and manage to put the fire out before causing serious damage, the human body is more fragile than you might think and usually can’t withstand a large amount of rough treatment. You can get burns without even realizing it, which means that you really need to start focusing on getting the sort of clothing that can keep your body protected.

The primary areas that you are going to have to cover are your face and arms. The rest of your body is important too, but it’s generally covered anyway. Your arms and face need to be looked at a little more without a doubt.

Finally, if you really want to be as safe as possible while distilling liquor at home, you need to make sure that you don’t drink at all while you are working. This may sound silly because, after all, who would actually drink while they are dealing with something so dangerous? However, the fact of the matter is that there are a lot of people who don’t realize how dangerous this can be. After all, someone who is putting effort into distilling booze at home is certainly going to be the sort of person that loves drinking a great deal.

Just always keep in mind that the distillation process is delicate, dangerous and needs to be treated with respect. Once you get this down, chances are that everything will start to go a lot more smoothly for you in the future!
